Another Movie

My life has become the times between the movies I watch. One that I seem to watch every few weeks because of the lack of anything new, creative, inspiring etcetera is The Painted Veil. This movie is based on the novel by the same name by W. Somerset Maugham. It stars Naomi Watts, who I could give or take, and Edward Norton. Watts gives the performance of her career to date(however pretentious that sounds) and Edward Norton reaffirms why he is one of the best actors of this generation. Anyways, a really good love lost and found story but nothing like Grease. A must see in my book.

Nas X Levis

Dope little vignette of what Nas is doing now. Don't really know what Levis has to do with it.

Influences

Some of my biggest influences:

Freddie Couples has been keeping Dentists in business since the late 70s by giving kids toothaches with his sweeter then candy swing.

Boom-Boom was the first one to start rocking gabardine slacks and dope-ass twill sweater vests on the course.

He was wearing Ecco sneakers at the Masters instead of the stock golf-spikes. That pretty much sums up the guy's personality. Youtube his name to get the full effect of his swing.

Wes Anderson is one of my top-5 favorite directors of all time. He has a real throw back/simplicity look. Less is by far more when it comes to the way I look at things. You hear that Pharrell?

Wes is not really an Adonis in the classic sense of the term but sure is a snappy dresser. Velvet bow ties and form fitting earth tone blazers are definitely staples in Wes Anderson's wardrobe. Classic New England style.

Gino Iannucci is a skateboarder from Long Island, NY. He comes from a real fashionable era in NY's history. He skates for the quintessential New York City brand Mighty Healthy that his childhood friend owns.

This is him at his shop POETS in Long Island

Dude skates for Nike but claims he wears his Ferragamo derbies and Clark Walabees more than anything else.

Dean Martin. Classic. If he needs to be explained you just don't get it.

Less Is More?

Because of my current employment situation I spend alot of time in front of a computer with 90% of the internet blocked. This can be extremely tedious and occasionally some what helpful. One of my favorite websites at to peruse at work is The New Yorker. While I was clicking around I came across this article about the late author David Foster Wallace. I know he was a well respected writer in a variety of capacities and I have tried to read him before. If you have never read anything by Mr. Wallace it is pertinent that you should know that he is (admittedly) extremely difficult and laborious to read because he writes with an absurd amount of lengthy footnotes so when you read him you are required to keep a finger in that back of the book to keep your place in the footnotes. Not only that, he has footnotes within footnotes within footnotes (I swear I am not making this up). I tried to read a 30ish page short story by him one time and it seriously took a fucking week to read. Not only is Wallace a tough read but he worked in the Post-modern genre which is not my favorite genre in the slightest. Needless to say, I was not a fan of his work.

So, after reading the article in The New Yorker about him and his own tragic ending of his own life I noticed that they mention an article that Wallace wrote for the New York Times, another one of my favorite websites, covering the 2007 Wimbledon tennis tournament and Roger Federer. This article blew me away, it was so well written that I felt I needed to share it with all of you.

D.F Wallace.

Anyways, I have pictures from Friday night I will post soon; as soon as I figure out Blogger's new way of posting pictures.

"Destiny Is Never Fair to Those Who Wait"

For no particular reason I have pretty much abandoned taking my camera out with me the past few weekends. Because of this my blog has shifted slightly from my life being the basis of material to my ideas, feeling and inspirations being put on display. That being noted; I have seen a couple dope movies in the past few days.
I saw Shutter Island on Saturday with Chris and his brother Marco. DiCaprio and Scorsese do not miss with this one. To tell you any minute detail of the movie would not do it justice and probably reveal the ending so I will not even attempt even though I have tried to explain the plot more than once and failed miserably at doing so. Like I said DiCaprio is amazing but the supporting cast is crazy good also. The guy next to him in the above picture plays his partner, this guys is equally good as Leo in the movie. The actors name is Mark Ruffalo or Ruffolo or some shit like that. He was also in another one of my all time favorites: All the Kings Men. Dude also graduated from F.C. a while ago. Here is the link to Anthony Lane's(The New Yorker) take on Shutter Island. Spoiler Alert: Mr. Lane does not like the movie as much as me.

So last week I substituted for an I.S.S. coordinator for a few days which is to say I did no teaching; I sat there and made sure 2 students said nothing and did there work all day. This might be the dopest job I have ever had. I sat for like 5-6 hours and just read and after getting bored with reading I watched movies on YouTube. I came across this movie on YouTube and the only reason I watched it was because Van Johnson and Elizabeth Taylor were in it. This movie did not disappoint. The Last Time I Saw Paris is a movie adaptation of one of my favorite short stories by one of my favorite authors: Fitzgerald's Babylon Revisited. The movie deals with disillusionment caused by WWII in Paris, of course. Van Johnson and Elizabeth Taylor both play the leads, again can't miss with these 2 in any movie that either are in.

Either way you see one of these 2 movies and your time will not be ill spent.

Birdberry Pictures

I haven't posted in a while again.... because I have, yet again, slipped into the same routine on the weekend: Waterman's(optional), Lucky's, Guad's, throw up. But I have been taking pictures of everyday life on the birdberry. So here are some goodies:

So being relativity unemployed Chris, AJ and I took all of our gentley used brand named shoes to Plato's closet to sell. I had 1 pair of exclusive, never been worn es's, AJ had a few pairs of air force ones that he wore to prom once or some shit and Chris had literally a whole bucket of shoes that were mildly worn. None of which they would buy. On the up side someone decided to pass on our shoe but bought these patented leather pair of men's purple Air Forces. That place is seriously Foley's paradise. Timmy's pants on a night in which Waterman's was on the agenda. I thought they were hilarious after a few Orange Crushes and now I just feel like they are kind of funny. Anyways, you should see them. This was on the back of a dressing room door and I thought it was good marketing; so I followed the sign. I went ahead, I got it. I didn't want to though.
Chocolate Wine. Needs no explanation. Looks disgusting. Automatically thought of Timmy.Funniest picture on my phone. If you don't get it you don't get it. Thanks Mandy and Brian. My new part time job. I does not hurt. Ask Wade. Some dude proposed to his wife in Lucky's on a Sunday morning in front of like 25 hungover/still drunk people from the night before. A.K.A. Foley in 6 years, if he can ever find a girl drunk enough to marry him. Was that over the line? Congratulations to the happy couple, though. And thanks for the shot at 11 in the morning.

"You know how come you just know things are amazing? Because you have taste."

I know it is late but I just finished this new movie called "An Education". It has stars Carey Mulligan and Peter Sarsgaard. "An Education" is up for Best Picture of the year and because this movie is so dope and the only thing that might be better is Inglorious Basterds and that is only because QT directed it. Anyway, this Carey Mulligan is such a good young actress and she is dating Shia Labeouf i thought i would share her screentest with you but i forgot how to embed movies on to blogger so here is the link for Carey Mulligan's screen test from NYTimes:

Check out the movie if you are ever in a city that caries BBC movies releases; seriously such a good movie.

Now is the Winter of My Discontent

Schools are shut down again. Usually this is a dope thing for me. Not now, being a "Guest Teacher" if schools are not open i do not get paid. Anyways, the snow forces me inside because I hate snow so much; I do not want to play in it and if another person asks me to go sledding or pull them behind my truck I am going to lose it. Here are the pluses of the extended snow days: I saw "The Book of Eli" yesterday with James after getting a dope buzz at Kelly's before the movie. Also, I found this pretty recent interview of Pharrell:

Rest In Peace

Jerome David Salinger Died Wednesday at age 91 in his home in New Hampshire. He is and has been one of my favorite authors for a long long time. He will be sorely missed even though he hasn't published since 1965. One of my most favorite pieces of literature ever written is Salinger's "To Esme-With Love and Squalor". This short story is truly awe inspiring for any amateur writer. Of course Salinger is better know for "Catcher in the Rye" and his chronicling of his fictional Glass family. All in all a great writer/recluse died Wednesday, I hope I get a piece in the Times when that happens to me.J.D. Salinger (1/1/1919-1/28/2010)

"I say that the true artist-seer, the heavenly fool who can and does produce beauty, is mainly dazzled to death by his own scruples, the blinding shapes and colors of his own sacred human conscience."—from Salinger's novella, Seymour: An Introduction

Some Oldies

I was flipping through my old facecrook photos starting from the old ones moving forward. Here are some of the better joints:
This sums up my 19-21 ages. "Hey, it is friday/saturday night. What do you feel like doing? Malibu Mac's was 95% of the time the answer to that question. This was a fun night, I think. That was such a dope shirt when I first got it. Wish Kellam was still in town.
Drinking pretty far away from home in Kellam coaches gear while being responsible for the whole JV Baseball team. I think it was real hot that night also

Had to find one Gilbs wasn't in. Again: Malibu Mac's

Haven't done this in a while

I forgot how word contractions work so I think that the title of this entry is not spelled correctly. Anyways, sorry for the lay over. Just haven't had the time (these contraction are starting to look funny). Well lets not waste anymore time.

This weekends pictures:
Some band was at Lucks, place was packed to say the least, the very least.
Flannel brothers were in full effect.
Foleys and Lane were chilling realll hard.
Dave was feeling it, whatever that means; this is what it looks like.
Brian and Mandy; he claimed he was roofied at some point this night. I think the culprit is standing next to him.
Lindsay Hoyer felt like Lucks was an old persons bar; weird huh?

Anders was kinda there, Rooney told me she was feeling him.

I ended up going to Guads, I do not have any pictures of that. I got real ignorant and could not sleep on a bed or the ground so I ended up like this:
